New Zealand Consulate-General, Los Angeles: Consular Officer/ Receptionist

The New Zealand Consulate General in Los Angeles is looking for a new Consular Officer/Receptionist to work closely with the Senior Consular Officer to deliver consular and immigration services to clients as well as undertaking reception duties for the Consulate General.

Consular duties will include processing temporary entry visa applications in accordance with New Zealand Immigration Policy, issuing Emergency Travel Documents and providing consular assistance and advice to New Zealand citizens. Reception duties will include greeting visitors, receiving incoming calls and providing general information about New Zealand.

The successful applicant will be designated as locally engaged staff and will be required to obtain and maintain a New Zealand Security Clearance.

In addition, a successful applicant will need at least three years administrative experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise work. You will need to be fully familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and other applications, and have proven flexibility and initiative. You will need to have strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and a good general knowledge of New Zealand. A background in passport and visa work would be helpful but is not essential.

If appointed from outside the USA, the successful applicant will be responsible for their own relocation costs to Los Angeles, obtaining a visa, and for their own living costs once in Los Angeles

Human Resources Adviser – Fixed Term (6 Months)
Human Resources Policy Team

We are looking to recruit a Human Resources Adviser on a six month fixed term basis to join the Human Resources Policy team (HRP) within the Human Resources Division.

As a Human Resources Adviser you will provide generalist HR advice to management. HR Advisers (HRP) are required to develop and implement HR strategies and polices, across the spectrum of Human Resources work and to provide an internal consultancy to Human Resources Division staff and managers covering both operational HR service delivery as well as strategic and organisation development. HR Advisers (HRP) also have responsibility for one or more area of specialisation.

This position has particular responsibility for the provision of HR advice on health and wellbeing.

The successful applicant will have:

• Successful experience in developing and managing human resources polices and procedures;
• A successful track record in the provision of generalist HR advice.
• An interest and knowledge of the health and safety principles, polices, and relevant legislation would be desirable but not essential;
• The ability to problem solve applying sound judgement;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
• The ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and
• Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft applications and databases, e.g. MS Word, Excel.

Senior Human Resources Adviser
Human Resources Policy Team

We are looking to recruit a Senior Human Resources Adviser to join the Human Resources Policy team (HRP) within the Human Resources Division.

As a Senior Human Resources Adviser you will provide generalist HR advice to management. HR Advisers (HRP) are required to develop and implement HR strategies and polices, across the spectrum of Human Resources work and to provide an internal consultancy to the Human Resources Division staff and managers covering both operational HR service delivery as well as strategic and organisation development. HR Advisers (HRP) also have responsibility for one or more area of specialisation.

This position has particular responsibility for the provision of HR advice on locally employed staff. Locally employed staff are employed by New Zealand Embassies/High Commissions on local terms and conditions of employment. There are currently 54 Embassies/High Commissions.

The successful applicant will have:

• Successful experience in developing and managing human resources polices and procedures;
• A successful track record in the provision of expert HR advice, including employment relations, remuneration, and performance management.
• The ability to problem solve applying sound judgement;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
• The ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and
• Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft applications and databases, e.g. MS Word, Excel.

Vetting Officer

We help make Ministry Information available to the New Zealand public

The Ministry’s Knowledge Services Division provides information, records and document management support and advice across all Ministry business units. Within the division there are specialist roles relating to knowledge, information, archives and records management, library services, intranet management and research. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has an established programme of work to assess the classification of all Ministry paper files held at Archives New Zealand.

We are seeking suitably experienced senior staff to review hard copy Ministry paper records. We need officers who are very familiar with Ministry business and requirements for managing sensitive Government information (that can impact on National Security, Foreign Relations, International Trade and personal privacy). It is essential that they are familiar with current information, recordkeeping, archival practise and security legislation.

Successful applicants must be able to be adaptable and work well as part of a team and independently as required. It is essential as part of this role to have excellent management, administration, communication and decision making skills.

This position is part of the Specialist Job family and is part-time - approximately 10 hours per week.

You must be a New Zealand citizen and be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government security clearance.

Salary range: $67,405 - $76,128 (pro-rata)

Human Resources Programme Manager - Fixed Term (12 months)

The Ministry has a number of Human Resource initiatives underway, including staff reviews, and require an experienced senior HR practitioner to manage the HR Programme and provide operational HR support to the HR Director.
The three key areas of responsibility are:


• Programme management which involves coordinating and overseeing a number of HR projects, and provision of advice and support on the implementation of project recommendations.
• Leading and undertaking project work
• Assisting the Director HRS with HR operational work


This is a fixed-term position for the period of 12 months.

Salary range: $123,250 - $139,200
