Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) have operated, since May 2000, a Catch Documentation Scheme for Dissostichus spp. (Patagonian or Antarctic toothfish), which is binding on all members of the CAMLR Commission.
The scheme is designed to track the landings and trade flows of toothfish caught in the CCAMLR area (and where possible, in adjacent waters) through a certificate of origin system. Each catch or shipment of toothfish must be accompanied by a valid catch document, issued in line with CCAMLR rules ensuring compliance with CCAMLR Conservation Measures.
The Catch Documentation Scheme is implemented in New Zealand through the Fisheries (Toothfish Catch Documentation Scheme) Regulations 2000 and associated Customs Import and Export Prohibition Orders for toothfish.
In
New Zealand the scheme is administered by the Ministry
of Fisheries. All
landings, imports and exports of Dissostichus spp (Toothfish) to or from
New Zealand must be accompanied by a valid catch document.
Please contact the Ministry of Fisheries with any enquiries about the documentation scheme.
