International and regional peacekeeping, including under the UN, is important in today's security landscape. The number of conflict and post-conflict situations and fragile states requiring international assistance is increasing. In response to this, the United Nations' and regional peace support workload continues to increase. New Zealand Contributions Peace support operations and peacekeeping is one of New Zealand's most tangible commitments to collective security and the rule of law. New Zealand is a strong supporter of the United Nations' and regional peacekeeping and peace support efforts. New Zealand plays a key role in the Pacific and elsewhere in the world in both UN managed and UN endorsed operations (see below). New Zealand also contributes to integrated state-building operations in Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste and Afghanistan.
