Government purchasing by the New Zealand government and the Australian Federal and State governments is covered by the Australia New Zealand Government Procurement Agreement (ANZGPA) of 1991. Under this agreement New Zealand and Australian Federal and State Governments agree to accord equal access and promotion of opportunity in government purchasing to each other’s suppliers of goods and services.
The government purchasing policy as provided for in the Government Procurement Agreement is linked to the wider goal of ensuring equality of competition in the trans-Tasman market. The ANZGPA commitments are consistent with the Government’s globally non-preferential procurement policy
