Biotechnology
is a key area of cooperation between Australia
and New Zealand. Since the successful
2003 CER Business Dialogue, with its focus on
the potential for greater cooperation in the
biotechnology sector, the number and range of
links have increased to include:
Membership
of the Australia-New
Zealand Biotech Alliance . The ANZBA was signed and
launched at BIO2004. The
ANZBA is an agreement between the states
of Australia and New Zealand to co-promote
our biotechnology industry and capability
in the international arena. The
ANZBA supplements three individual biotech
arrangements between New Zealand and New
South Wales, Queensland and Victoria;
Collocation
of New Zealand and Australian stands
at the BIO conferences in San Francisco in
2004 and in Philadelphia in 2005.
NZTE’s
provision of $12 million in funding over
a four year period for the Australia
New Zealand Biotech Partnership Fund . The Fund’s
objective is to offer partnership funding
to New Zealand and Australian companies
working together on biotechnology development,
manufacturing and marketing, in order to
grow critical mass in the region and improve
access to global market opportunities.
Increasing
contact at ministerial, official and researcher
levels, including the regular scheduled talks
between the Ministry
of Research, Science and Technology, and
the Australian Department of Education, Science & Training.
