March/April 2008: one week visit to New Zealand by journalists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay on the theme of adventure & ecotourism
October 2007: contribution towards cost of function organised by Latin America New Zealand Business Council at Victoria University to promote working holiday schemes in Latin America
September 2007: accommodation for five speakers from Latin America at Victoria University Institute for Linkages with Latin America (VILLA) Seminar “Latin America Today: Challenges, Opportunities & Trans-Pacific Perspectives”
Argentina
June 2008: airfare and contribution to internal costs of one week visit to New Zealand by Argentine Prime Minister’s Fellow Jorge Forteza
May 2008: internal costs in Argentina for New Zealand dairy expert Colin Holmes
March - June 2008: airfares to Buenos Aires for Massey University staff Nicola Shadbolt and Ian Brookes, to deliver postgraduate courses in animal production at the University of Buenos Aires
March/April 2008: airfare to Buenos Aires for New Zealand artist Phil Dadson, to supervise installation of his work and contribute to the associated forum of the “Sur Polar” exhibition of Antarctic art at the Universidad Tres de Febrero
August 2007 - June 2008: assistance with costs for website setup of Argentine Transpolar Club (a principally Argentine network for the deepening and broadening of relationships through networking & promotional activity)
August/September 2007: contribution to airfares for an Artist Residency in Christchurch, and workshops in Christchurch and Wellington, by Argentine tango group Vachs Ochoa
August 2007: airfare for participation by New Zealand Police representative Dave Cliff as guest speaker at the Argentine Congress on Traffic & Road Safety in Buenos Aires
Brazil
April 2008: airfare to Brazil for Mr Graeme Ayres of the Department of Conservation to represent New Zealand at a series of seminars on sustainable tourism
April 2008: assistance with internal costs for a visit to New Zealand by a delegation from the Brazilian Soy Bean Producers’ Association and accompanying government officials
August 2007: visit to Brazil by Professor Allan Rae of Massey University, to attend as an observer the inaugural meeting of the Brazilian Agri-food Research Network, and associated meetings
July 2007: visit to Brazil and Chile by Dr Harry Clark, AgResearch, to identify possible areas of collaboration with New Zealand on agricultural greenhouse gas emissions
Chile
April 2008: one week visit to New Zealand by Chilean indigenous commentator Dr Lucas Sierra
November/December 2007: course costs and accommodation for Ms Jimena Sardiña, Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH), to attend the Graduate Certificate in Antarctic Studies at Canterbury University
September 2007: contribution to the cost of a study tour to New Zealand by a group of 17 stakeholders from the Chilean Blue Whale Centre, to investigate marine and coastal protected areas
Mexico
February 2008: one week study visit to New Zealand by Mr Raul Canales, Principal of Edmund Hillary College, Mexico City
November 2007: contribution to internal costs for Ms Raffaela Cedraschi, Oceania Curator, Museo National de las Culturas, Mexico whilst undertaking a two week residency at Te Papa
August/September 2007: contribution to an Artist Residency in Mexico City by New Zealand artist Richard Wearn
August 2007: airfare to New Zealand for Mr Juan Carlos Rivera López, Director General of the Mexican National Association of Universities and Tertiary Institutions (ANUIES) to attend the New Zealand International Education Conference, Christchurch
Paraguay
April 2008: donation of two sets of Maori cultural resources for two separate indigenous communities in Paraguay
Uruguay
April 2008: contribution to internal costs for the visit to Wellington of Mr Conrado Ramos, Under-Secretary of the Uruguayan Budget & Planning Office (OPP), to study state sector reform in New Zealand
December 2007: one week study visit to Wellington to learn about New Zealand’s experience with state sector reform by Mr Martin Vidal of the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry
November 2007: contribution to internal costs for the visit to New Zealand by President Tabaré Vazquez of Uruguay
