The Uruguay Minister of Agriculture Taberé Aguerre visited New Zealand from 8 to 14 August 2011 in a visit that has laid the groundwork for greater agricultural links between New Zealand and Uruguay into the future.
Given the need to produce more food to feed the growing global population, there is potential for New Zealand and Uruguay to become agricultural partners.
The Minister's visit included meetings and farm visits in Wellington, Palmerston North, Christchurch and Hamilton with officials, Ministers, and New Zealand Agri-businesses. Accompanying Minister Aguerre was a delegation of 26 Uruguayan officials, scientists, sheep and dairy sector representatives.
