
Dr Jaime Zabludovsky visited NewZealand between 2-7 May 2011 as the Prime Minister’s Fellow from Mexico. The PM’s Fellow programme is part of the Government’s Latin America Strategy.
Zabludovsky is an authority on trade policy issues in Mexico and his visit was an opportunity to exchange views on trade and economic developments in Mexico as well as New Zealand’s economic reform experience. Zabludovsky was particularly interested in the Trans-Pacific Partnership initiative, suggesting that it would be in Mexico’s interests to be involved.
Zabludovsky’s Curriculum Vitae includes his current roles as the Executive Vice President oftheMexicaneconomic consultancyfirmIQOM, Executive Vice President of the Mexican Council of International Relations, and Executive President of the Mexican Council of the Commodity Industry (CONMEXICO). His previous roles include Mexican Ambassador to the European Union (1998-2001) and Chief Negotiator during the Mexico-EU FTA negotiations.
His week long programme in New Zealand involved meetings with a range of Government agencies with expertise on New Zealand’s trade policy, economic and public service reform, as well as New Zealand businesses. Zabludovsky also called on the Prime Minister, the Minister of Trade, the Leader of the Opposition, and Members of Parliament who have visited Mexico.
