Mexican border officials have reported an increased number of errors in the labelling and/or certification of meat shipments from New Zealand and other countries.
Various shipments with these errors have recently been detained at Mexican ports and ultimately rejected. The New Zealand Embassy in Mexico and New Zealand Food Safety Authority are working closely with Mexican agriculture, customs and port officials on these issues, but exporters should be aware that any errors in the labelling and/or certification of meat products destined for Mexico can be expected to result in the affected consignment being rejected. In the light of this, exporters are encouraged to exercise full care with the labelling and certification of these products.
