Argentine Minister of Industry visits New Zealand

Argentina's Minister of Industry, Debora Giorgi, visited New Zealand on 23-24 August. Minister Giorgi, who led a delegation of Argentine entrepreneurs seeking to sell agricultural machinery to interested New Zealand clients, gave a speech at Opportunity Hamilton - the city's economic development agency. In her speech, Minister Giorgi said New Zealand and Argentina, as leading food producers, should take advantage of the great opportunity presented by growing global food demand. She also urged New Zealand companies to consider investing in Argentina.

"Argentina has become a very attractive destination for global investors," she said. "We invite and expect New Zealand companies to invest in our country. We already have several positive experiences such as Fonterra, Sealord, Bomac Laboratories and PGG Wrightson, just to mention a few. Argentina's diversified economy offers an array of attractive investment opportunities across a range of sectors. The agro industry, auto parts, the health industry, biotechnology, professional and value added services, the IT and creative industry are some of them."

During her visit, Minister Giorgi spent time in Hamilton and Auckland.

While in Hamilton, she visited Opportunity Hamilton, ag-biotechnology business hub Waikato Innovation Park and animal management systems company Gallagher. She was accompanied by the city's two Members of Parliament, David Bennett and Tim Macindoe.

In Auckland, she met a group of New Zealand entrepreneurs with interests in Argentina met Graham Matthews, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise's Director of Investment and visited the headquarters of Fonterra, which has interests in Argentina through Dairy Partners America, its joint venture with Nestle.
