Visit to New Zealand by Mexican Minister of Agriculture and Delegation

Secretary Mayorga visited New Zealand, between 15-19 June 2010, as a guest of the New Zealand Government and was accompanied by a large delegation including seven senior agriculture officials as well as eight Mexican industry representatives from the meat, dairy, coconut and papaya sectors. The delegation was interested in learning more about how New Zealand has encouraged innovation and productivity in the agricultural sector as well as exploring opportunities for information exchange, investment and collaboration on research and development.

During their visit, the Mexican delegation met with research and development centres: Lincoln University, Plant & Food Research, AgResearch, as well as New Zealand agricultural-related businesses including Synlait, Realcold Milmech, Zespri, Fonterra, Waikato Innovation Park as well as a range of companies participating in this year’s National Agricultural Fieldays. Secretary Mayorga and officials also met with the Minister of Agriculture, Hon David Carter (see Joint Statement), and the Minister of Trade, Hon Tim Groser.
