- Inauguration of Plaza Nueva Zelandia, Santiago, Chile
The New Zealand Ambassador Rosemary Paterson and the Mayor of Providencia, Cristian Labbe, have inaugurated the new "Plaza Nueva Zelandia".

Agriculture and Forestry Minister David Carter visited Latin America from 17-27 October 2009, involving bilateral programmes in Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.

Various New Zealand meat shipments destined for Mexico have recently been detained at Mexican ports and ultimately rejected because of errors in the labelling and/certification.
- Governor of Mexican State of Jalisco visits New Zealand [external link]
The Governor of the State of Jalisco, Mr Emilio González, visited New Zealand from 6-9 October 2008 accompanied by a large public and private sector delegation. During his visit, the Governor met with the Minister of Agriculture, Hon Jim Anderton. They signed an Arrangement on Agricultural Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the State of Jalisco.

An address by Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs & Trade Michael Green was given at Victoria University Institute for Links with Latin America (VILLA) at the Seminar on “Changing Cultures in Latin America”.
- Brazilian Foreign Minister visits New Zealand
Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Celso Amorim visited New Zealand 28 & 29 August 2008. During his time in Auckland, Mr Amorim met Prime Minister Helen Clark, Foreign Minister Peters, and Trade Minister Phil Goff to discuss areas of common interest, including world trade negotiations and the environment.
