

Foreign Minister Murray McCully met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other senior members of the Obama administration during his visit to Washington from 17 to 19 May 2011.
Both Mr McCully and Secretary Clinton spoke of the strength of the New Zealand / United States relationship, which was affirmed last year by the signing of the Wellington Declaration during Secretary Clinton's visit to New Zealand .
They discussed cooperation in the Pacific, Afghanistan, and developments in the Middle East, and Mr McCully expressed thanks for the generous support offered by the United States in the wake of the Christchurch earthquake.
Mr McCully also signed a joint statement on global supply chain security with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, and delivered an address to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on the New Zealand-US relationship in the Pacific.
