In his address at the dawn service, New Zealand Ambassador Mike Moore spoke of the "mateship" that existed between Australia and New Zealand service men and women.
"This bond is getting stronger, not weaker," he said.
The Ambassador also spoke of the need to remember not only the ANZACs of the past but those that served the country today.
"There is much to admire about the younger generation. They too, remember".
As with Anzac Day services around the world, the number of people who attend dawn service in Washington DC continues to increase.
Wreaths this year were laid by the governments of the United States, Turkey, Korea, the United Kingdom, Canada, and France, as well as by a number of expat organisations including New Zealand's KEA (Kiwi Expatriates Abroad) Association.
The Australian Embassy hosted a gun-fire breakfast after the Service.
Tomorrow, a Church Service in remembrance of Anzac Day will take place at the Washington National Cathedral followed by a Reception at the New Zealand Embassy.
