New Zealand has boosted its representation in Melbourne with career diplomat Rob Hole starting as the New Zealand Consul-General in the city on October the 1st.
Mr Hole will work alongside the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise team at the Consulate. An NZTE officer had previously headed the post.
With the addition of a Ministry diplomat to the Melbourne consulate New Zealand now has four diplomatic posts in Australia: the High Commission in Canberra, and Consulate-Generals in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
The increase in diplomatic representation in Melbourne is part of the five year capability funding increase for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced in this year's budget.
The position is part of New Zealand's wider effort to advance its political, economic, and trade interests in Australia.
Two-way trade with the state of Victoria is worth over $4 billion a year, with particularly important links in the areas of tourism, defence procurement and science and innovation.
For Consulate-General contact details see below:
The post will be the first point of contact for New Zealanders seeking consular assistance in Victoria. See the Safe Travel website for further details.
The Consulate-General will not issue passports or emergency travel documents. In Australia, all passport applications are processed by the New Zealand Passport Office (Department of Internal Affairs) in Sydney.
