New Zealand participation in Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement negotiations

The recently negotiated Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) aims to establish new international standards for the enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPRs) to tackle more effectively significant trade in counterfeit and pirated goods.

The agreement focuses on three areas:

The agreement builds upon and complements existing international legal frameworks for the protection and enforcement of IPRs, including the World Trade Organisation Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property (TRIPS).
