Interest in joining TPP widens

According to reports out of Honolulu, Canada and Mexico have joined Japan in announcing their wish to become part of the TPP negotiation.

US Trade Representative Ron Kirk issued a statement [external] welcoming the interest of its neighbouring economies and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners.

Canadian Trade Minister Ed Fast [external link] said Canada recognised TPP as a means to further strengthen its strong and growing ties to the Asia Pacific and contribute to economic integration in the region.

Mexico’s Secretary of the Economy, Bruno Ferrari, said that Mexico saw TPP as a way to promote greater economic growth and create opportunities for trade and investment. See below:
