The sixth round of the New Zealand-Malaysia FTA was held in Kuala Lumpur from 24-28 April 2006. While both sides were working towards concluding negotiations at this round, it was not possible to reach agreement on all issues during the week. Both sides agreed to take stock of key remaining differences and how these could be resolved.
However, progress was made in many issues, some of which are now finalised, subject to the deal as a whole. Key issues where satisfactory solutions have not been found include services and investment.
As at end September 2006, no further substantive progress has been made in negotiations with Malaysia. Contacts continue between officials to try to find a way forward.
