As well as participating in WTO negotiation rounds, New Zealand proactively seeks to improve trading conditions with some of our major trading partners.
The Trade Law Unit provides legal support to the negotiation of bilateral and plurilateral free trade agreements. Read more about the progress of these agreements.
The Unit also provides the New Zealand lead in the negotiations on legal and institutional issues in each agreement. These include the dispute settlement rules similar to those in the WTO system, the structure and consistency of the agreement, and the general provisions that apply across the agreement.
