Information for conference delegates

Travelling to the conference

Delegates are strongly encouraged to make early bookings for air travel to New Zealand, as February is a popular time for tourism. Direct international airlinks into Wellington are possible via Australia (we note the requirement for a transit visa for Australia for many countries). The majority of international flights to New Zealand come via Auckland. Delegates will need to clear customs and immigration at Auckland before transferring to their domestic flight to Wellington.

Prohibited and restricted items

Delegates should be aware that New Zealand has strict customs and quarantine controls in place at the border. To avoid problems on entry delegates should be aware in particular that the entry of foodstuffs and plant material is restricted. If possible delegates should avoid bringing these items to New Zealand. All luggage (both carry on and checked) is x-rayed on arrival to detect prohibited items and instant fines are imposed for breaches of regulations.

Transport to and from the Airport

Wellington Airport is serviced by taxis, bus and shuttle transport. Approximate taxi fares to the centre city are $25-35, depending on destination and traffic. Door-to-door shuttle fares to the centre city range from $15-20. A regular bus service runs between the airport and central city.
