Breakout Session Four: Innovation – Utilities of the Future

CEO of Vector Limited, Simon MacKenzie, introduces the speakers of the session and provides his own thoughts on innovative technologies.

Manager of Technology Development at Ergon Energy Limited, Michelle Taylor, talks about how important combining technology and utility knowledge together is in order to produce a good outcome.

CEO of Sunergise, Paul Makumbe, highlights how renewable energy can play a key role in improving energy security, energy equity and be economically sustainable across the Pacific. 

Executive Director of Pacific Power Association in Fiji, Andrew Daka, outlines what he sees as being the Pacific perspective of utilities between now and the future.  In particular, he considers that Pacific utilities will place greater emphasis on improving energy efficiency.

Director of Energy and Mining Group, Industrial Development and Public Policy Department at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Fuyuki Sagara, talks about how JICA uses the knowledge and expertise from a small grid population such as Okinawa to provide assistance to Pacific countries in the energy sector. 

Director of Te Aponga Uira in the Cook Islands, Stephen Anderson, talks about how the panellist comments relate to the context of the Cook Islands, including energy storage, software upgrades and electric vehicles.
