Visa information for partners and dependent children of New Zealand Scholarships students.

Partners and dependent children of scholarship students funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme can apply for a work visa, a student visa, or a visitor visa. To be granted a visa, applicants must meet the requirements of Immigration New Zealand. These requirements include providing evidence of funds.

Successful allocation of a visa requires a family to demonstrate they have sufficient funds both to support themselves while they are in New Zealand and to return home. Immigration New Zealand takes into account each family’s overall financial circumstances, so the exact amount of funds required may vary.

Students are reminded that they may not be fully aware of the circumstances, financial status, and funding sources of other students, so should not assume that their family’s visa applications will have the same outcome that of as other families. Each family’s circumstances are unique.

Some families may be able to seek sponsorship for their visas from family members or friends in New Zealand. The sponsor will be responsible for the accommodation, maintenance, and return tickets for any person they have sponsored.

Evidence of all current and ongoing sources of income should be declared when making a visa application. This will give Immigration New Zealand a full picture of the family’s financial circumstances with which to evaluate the submission. Please note that, in general, the scholarship stipend (living allowance) paid to the student cannot be considered to be part of the evidence of funds for the partner or child(ren) of that student. The stipend is sufficient funds for the scholarship student only.
