Collaborate Pacific is currently suspended and not accepting applications for support. The fund’s budget has been expended for this year. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We will assess in early 2023 whether Collaborate Pacific should be re-opened. To aid the review process we will be monitoring interest in the Fund, so if you have a query please communicate this to CollaboratePacific@mfat.govt.nz.
The fund works to support one-off, small scale activities that tackle issues that matter to the region.
Pacific Island citizens, NGOs, government agencies, and civil society are encouraged to apply to Collaborate Pacific for funding for event and travel costs for activities relevant to the fund’s objectives.
What the fund covers
Collaborate Pacific is a ‘reimbursable fund’ meaning that for successful applicants, payment is made at the conclusion of the event, based on actual expenditure (within the amount agreed). This actual expenditure is supported by appropriate receipts and a covering invoice.
Funding can cover travel (including transport, accommodation, and meals) and event costs (including hosting costs). In general, it is expected that applicants use the most economical and direct forms of transport.
Eligible activities must be consistent with the development priorities of the New Zealand Aid Programme and Pacific Island countries. These thematic priority areas include:
- Climate Change and disaster risk
- Economic development
- Gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Humanitarian response
- Human Rights
- Information and communications technology
- Labour mobility
- Oceans and fisheries
- Pacific Arts, Culture & Heritage
- Renewable energy
Eligible activities include those that are small-scale and one-off in nature, and contribute to one or more of the fund’s objectives:
- Supporting more effective governance and leadership in the region.
- Supporting more effective regional cooperation.
- Empowering the sustainable development of the Pacific in issues that matter to the region.
Only organisations (legally incorporated) are eligible to apply to Collaborate Pacific. This includes government departments and agencies. We may ask to see copies of your certificate of incorporation, constitution, and last annual financial statements during our appraisal of your application.
Applications should primarily include Pacific Island citizens, however citizens of other countries may occasionally be considered, where a direct benefit to the Pacific can be demonstrated.

You must apply to Collaborate Pacific at least 6 weeks before the event. We aim to let you know the outcome within 4 weeks of submitting your application.
