Si’alei van Toor took up the post of Ambassador to Russia (cross accredited to Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan) in January 2020.

Si’alei is a career diplomat. She has been posted twice in Beijing (most recently as Economic Counsellor in 2013) and  has served as Director of the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office in Taipei. Her most recent assignment in Wellington was as Senior Trade Adviser to the Minister for Trade and Export Growth.

Si’alei has a Bachelors Degree in political science and a Masters degree in economic development from the University of Auckland and a Masters degree in international relations from the University of New South Wales. Si’alei speaks Mandarin Chinese.

She has two children, Theo and Mila.
