New Zealand's Consul-General to Guangzhou
Rachel Maidment was appointed as New Zealand Consul-General, Guangzhou in September 2016. Rachel joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2001 and has served at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing and as Head of the Economic Section at the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office in Taipei. Rachel has also worked in divisions responsible for United Nations and refugee issues, and as a Senior Legal Adviser responsible for international criminal law matters.
From 2010 to mid-2016 Rachel worked in the private sector, advising a broad range of government and private sector clients focused on Asia.
Rachel has Science and Law (Hons.) degrees from the University of Auckland and has been admitted to practice as a lawyer.
Rachel speaks Mandarin and is married with two children.
