Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke this morning with Peru’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gustavo Adolfo Meza-Cuadra Velásquez, to discuss bilateral cooperation and, in particular, the challenges being faced by those respective citizens in each other’s country as a result of COVID-19.

The Ministers discussed the measures both countries had taken domestically to address the spread of the virus.

In terms of next steps, the Ministers discussed details around the flight that the New Zealand Government has chartered to assist with the repatriation of New Zealanders stranded in Peru; the New Zealand Government’s sincere appreciation was conveyed to Peru for the cooperation to date with respect to this complex operation.

The Ministers also discussed the situation of Peruvians in New Zealand and undertook for officials to continue working together to help achieve desired outcomes in this respect.
