Call for applications to attend the 2020 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference in New York.

From 27 April – 22 May 2020, States Party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) will meet at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to take stock of progress made towards the Treaty’s goals, including on nuclear disarmament, and to chart future action.

NPT Review Conferences are held every five years. This year’s Review Conference marks 50 years since the Treaty entered into force.

New Zealand has an important tradition of including a representative from civil society on its official delegation to NPT Review Conferences. As such, we call for applications from civil society to participate in the 2020 Review Conference as an adviser to the New Zealand delegation.

Who can apply

Applications are open to New Zealanders who have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of nuclear disarmament.

A formal nomination will be made by the Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms Control (PACDAC) and put forward to the Minister of Disarmament and Arms Control.

Please note that a decision on the final composition of the official New Zealand delegation rests solely with the Minister.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not financially support a successful nominee’s participation in the Review Conference, but it is possible that PACDAC may fund aspects of a successful delegate’s participation.
