Minister of Foreign Winston Peters received a call from Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne this morning.

The Ministers discussed New Zealand and Canada’s respective approaches to responding to, and recovering from, COVID-19.

They also discussed efforts to, over time, progressively relax COVID-related travel restrictions – so as to allow more international travel when it is safe to do so.

The Ministers discussed the situation in Hong Kong, especially the proposed national security legislation, and the international community’s interest in supporting Hong Kong’s openness, autonomy and democracy.

The Ministers also touched on cooperation in the context of the United Nations.
