Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters spoke this morning with Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González, to discuss bilateral cooperation and both countries’ responses to COVID-19.

The two Ministers discussed the situation of Spanish nationals in New Zealand seeking to return to Spain and their future options, including in light of yesterday’s announcement by the New Zealand Government, on the safe and orderly departure of foreign nationals.

The two Ministers expressed thanks for the cooperation to date, including on specific cases.

The Ministers acknowledged the serious challenges currently being confronted, particularly in Spain at present, and the steps taken to address the unprecedented situation.
