Kiwi chefs impress Korean food influencers
Kasey and Karena Bird, the winners of Master Chef New Zealand 2014, impressed Korean food influencers at a unique Korean-Kiwi fusion food tasting event held in Seoul last month.
The talented Kiwi chefs created modern Korean fusion dishes using fresh New Zealand produce available in the Korean market, drawing on the experience they gained from spending a week exploring Korean culinary culture and with help from their new friend Chef Ryu Tae-hwan who heads the famous Ryunique restaurant in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam, Seoul.
The venue was Woorijip, a beautiful Korean traditional hanok guest house in Bukchon, Seoul. The discerning audience of food journalists and bloggers enjoyed four carefully crafted dishes combining both Korean and NZ ingredients including Korean soy bean paste and kimchi, and NZ honey, beef and green-lipped mussels. NZ wine from Matua matched splendidly with the fusion Korean dishes well at the event.
The event was filmed as part of a new TV series which will air first in New Zealand. Kasey and Karena’s Diplomatic Mission will follow Kasey and Karena as they visit 10 countries, experience new cuisine and put their creative skills to the test.
The event was kindly sponsored by Matua, Comvita, 5N5 Korea, Ecostore, KiwiYo and SHOTT Beverages.
