Which permit do I need?

What types of permits are there?

New Zealand issues the following types of permits/consents to export strategic goods and catch-all goods:

Single, multiple and multiple consent permit application forms also apply to goods in transit and transhipment.

Once you know which permit you need, please read through the guidance on how to apply.  If you are already experienced at applying for permits, you may prefer to jump straight to the application forms.

If you are interested in a permit to trade controlled chemicals, different permits apply. Read the guidance on exporting (and importing) controlled chemicals to understand more.

If you’re unsure which permit you need, or wish to discuss whether a general consent would be appropriate, contact us.

Be aware you may also have foreign requirements for internal transfer, transit and transhipment of controlled goods.

Read our guidance on what documentation other countries may require, and which of these the Export Controls team can help you with.
