In recent years, we have increased our development investments in Cambodia, as one of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN)’s least-developed countries. This supports the ASEAN’s commitment to narrow the development gap between its members.
Despite more than two decades of strong economic growth, Cambodia is still only ranked 146 out of 189 countries in the United Nation’s Human Development Index with 14% of the population living below the poverty line.
Our development investments in Cambodia focus on areas that Cambodia has prioritised and where New Zealand’s expertise is most valued, such as agriculture, knowledge and skills, and disaster risk management. Total aid to Cambodia comprises country-specific activities, as well as scholarships, regional initiatives, Partnerships Fund activities, and when requested, humanitarian response.
