Each year, the IPS offers 120 fully-funded scholarships for young foreign nationals from now 50 participating countries. The successful candidates travel to Berlin and spend five months in the German capital. The programme is co-hosted by the Bundestag and Berlin's universities and includes a three-month internship in the Bundestag (associated with a particular MP's office) as well as two months of events, seminars and visits. The internship involves active participation in the daily parliamentary work, as well as a visit to the hosting MP's electorate. The scholarship covers international travel, local accommodation, a monthly allowance of €500 and relevant insurance coverage.

The call for applications for 2021 was launched late last week and can be found here(external link). The first scholarship will begin in March 2021, and applications will be reviewed and processed by the German Embassy in Wellington(external link) by the end of September.
Key eligibility criteria include New Zealand citizenship, a tertiary degree (B.A. minimum), under 30 at the time of the commencement of the internship and fluent German (B2 minimum). Applicants will also be required to submit a motivation letter and two reference letters.
