Human Rights Council: 44th Session of the Universal Periodic Review - Colombia, November 2023

Ministry Statements & Speeches:

Mr Vice-President,

New Zealand warmly welcomes the delegation from Colombia, and urges Colombia to continue its progress towards the implementation of measures included in the Peace Agreement signed in 2016.

In particular, New Zealand recommends that Colombia:

  1. Ensure further opportunities to increase and enable the participation of women in the peace process.
  2. Provide security guarantees to enable the representation of Indigenous communities in the peace process.
  3. Ensure sufficient resources for implementing the Peace Agreement, and ensure reform of the police in an open and transparent process.
  4. Eliminate the crime of abortion in the criminal code.

We thank the delegation for their participation today and their consideration of these recommendations.

Thank you Mr Vice-President.
