Our relationship with Bulgaria

New Zealand's bilateral relationship with Bulgaria has grown markedly since Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007. Our official government engagement is conducted mainly through multilateral fora, notably the WTO, the UN and the Antarctic Treaty (Bulgaria became a Consultative Party in 1998).

There are around 2,000 Bulgarians in New Zealand and New Zealand granted visa-free access to Bulgarian visitors for visits of up to three months in 2007.
