Biography

Pam Dunn became New Zealand’s second dedicated Ambassador to ASEAN, based in Jakarta, in March 2018. 

Pam is a career diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.  She has been posted abroad three times: Beijing twice as First Secretary (1995-1998) and then as Deputy Head of Mission in the New Zealand Embassy to China (2008-2012), and Shanghai (2002-2005) as New Zealand Consul-General. She has also had two short term assignments overseas, in Bangkok (2014) and Beijing (2016/2017).

In Wellington, Pam has worked in both North Asia Division and South East Asia Division. In 2016 she was in the Office of the Chief Executive undertaking strategic projects focusing on Asia’s future.  In 2017 she was seconded as Senior Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Pam is from Wellington. She studied at Victoria University and Beijing Normal University. She speaks Chinese and is learning Indonesian.

Pam is married to Ross Dunn and has one son.
