Apply for a COP29 ‘Party overflow’ badge

Delegates at COP27.

The annual United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP) attracts the world’s largest gathering of civil society and businesses to share ideas, promote green technologies, and connect to build solutions to climate change.

This year the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will be offering New Zealand partners and stakeholders the opportunity to attend COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan, by registering an expression of interest to receive a ‘party overflow’ badge. This will help New Zealanders make the connections we need for New Zealand’s green transition.

Applicants must:

  • Be a New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident or be employed by or represent a recognised New Zealand business or organisation.
  • Fund and organise their own travel and accommodation, including any visas required for Azerbaijan.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in attending COP.
  • Agree that you will not present yourself as from, or speak on behalf of, the New Zealand Government
  • Agree to abide by the UNFCCC code of conduct Code of Conduct for UNFCCC Events(external link).

An application form will be available when COP29 registrations open. We also provide updates through our climate alert system, so please ensure you are registered: Sign up for MFAT Climate alerts(external link).

Successful applicants will receive a badge which allows access to the conference. You will not be a part of the official New Zealand delegation and must not represent yourself as speaking on behalf of the New Zealand Government.  We are not able to provide any additional support for you to attend COP29, and you will be responsible for your own funding and travel arrangements.

All New Zealanders on the ground at COP29, regardless of your badge, will be invited to daily stakeholder briefings.
