New Zealand-China Talks Focus on Climate Innovation, Finance, and Emissions Reduction
New Zealand and China reinforced their commitment to climate cooperation at the Seventh Ministerial Climate Change Dialogue, held in New Zealand between Climate Change Minister Simon Watts and China’s Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu at the end of August 2026. The Dialogue highlighted opportunities to deepen collaboration in areas with significant economic and trade relevance, including agricultural methane emissions, climate innovation, low-emissions technologies, and sustainable finance. The two sides emphasised that continued cooperation could support the transition to low-emissions economies while creating opportunities for innovation and investment.
New Zealand-Australia Trade Ministers meet in Auckland
At the annual Closer Economic Relations (CER) Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Auckland, New Zealand and Australia agreed to accelerate work on a more ambitious Single Economic Market agenda. Ministers welcomed a range of initiatives aimed at deepening trans-Tasman economic integration, including a new business to government collaboration programme focused on reducing the cost of doing business across the Tasman, greater regulatory and standards alignment, and closer cooperation on regional and global trade issues. The meeting also highlighted opportunities for New Zealand businesses associated with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including a planned trade mission to Brisbane.

Export 101 Workshop Series | Wellington
Wednesday 16 September 2026, 10 am – 4 pm
This full-day workshop is designed for businesses looking to enter or expand into Germany and the wider European market. Participants will gain practical insights into export strategy, regulations, logistics, trade fairs, and German business culture, with guidance from experienced exporters and industry experts. An MFAT speaker will also share perspectives on how they can leverage the opportunities within the New Zealand-European Union Free Trade Agreement (EU FTA) and the support available to businesses exploring international markets. The workshop is ideal for companies at the early stages of their export journey and offers excellent networking opportunities.

Tatauranga Aotearoa Stats NZ provides official data on the value of New Zealand’s exports and imports of both goods and services, by commodity type via the New Zealand Trade Dashboard(external link). This interactive dashboard is updated every quarter and allows for filtering by country and by commodity type.
