Mr President,
New Zealand warmly welcomes the delegation from the Federated States of Micronesia.
We commend the Federated States of Micronesia for its commitment to advancing gender equality – including its leadership in developing the Micronesian Gender Equality Framework in collaboration with its sub-regional partners.
In the spirit of constructive dialogue, New Zealand recommends that the Federated States of Micronesia:
- Continue strengthening the implementation of the National and State Policy to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls by ensuring adequate resources, training, monitoring and enforcement mechanisms at all levels.
- Ratify the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
- Ratify the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
- Establish an independent National Human Rights Institution in compliance with the Paris Principles.
