Human Rights Council 52nd Session of the Universal Periodic Review – Denmark

Ministry Statements & Speeches:

Delivered by Deputy Permanent Representative, Frances Brockie.

Mr Vice President,

We warmly welcome the delegation from Denmark.

New Zealand welcomes the Kingdom of Denmark's progress since its 2021 Universal Periodic Review including the adoption of legislation explicitly prohibiting discrimination against LGBTI+ persons, and continued efforts to advance gender equality.

New Zealand recommends that Denmark

  1. Continue its efforts to address the recommendations of the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment following the Committee’s seventh periodic visit to Denmark.
  2. Take steps to ensure equal protection from gender-based violence across the entire Danish Realm, including establishment of support services and training of social workers across the Realm.
  3. Ensure implementation of the new action plan for better inclusion for people with disabilities in education and the labour market.

We thank the delegation for their participation today and wish Denmark a successful review.

Thank you Mr President.
