Despite the many global challenges during our two years on the Council, New Zealand performed with distinction and played a widely commended role as one of the most constructive and active elected members in recent years.
Specifically, we worked to ensure the Security Council performed better in:
- preventing conflicts and emerging crises
- improving engagement with stakeholders, including troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations
- ensuring all states, including small states, received a fair hearing
- improving the transparency, inclusiveness and responsiveness of the Council.
