Our relationship with Argentina

New Zealand enjoys a friendly and cooperative relationship with Argentina.

2025 marked the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations, and we are partners on issues of mutual interest, including Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, and work together on a range of issues such as conservation, nuclear disarmament, and agriculture technology. The breadth and warmth of the relationship was brought to life during the visit by a New Zealand delegation in March 2026, led by Foreign Minister Winston Peters, who was accompanied by a cross-party group of New Zealand Parliamentarians, a range of businesses, media, and government officials.

New Zealand and Argentina also share a passion for sports, especially rugby. This has provided opportunities to strengthen connections between us through coaching and player exchanges.

Trade and economic

Travel is a major part of two-way trade.

New Zealand’s main goods exports to Argentina are paper products, machinery, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. We import mainly agricultural products from Argentina in return.
