Voting in the New Zealand General Election

The New Zealand General Election will be held on Saturday 14 October 2023.

Voters who are overseas during the General Election can vote from Wednesday 27 September to 7pm (NZ time), Saturday 14 October.

Who can vote from overseas

The rules about who can vote from overseas have changed for this election. You can vote from overseas for the 2023 General Election if you are enrolled and:

  • are a New Zealand citizen and have been in New Zealand in the last 6 years, or
  • are a New Zealand permanent resident and have been in New Zealand in the last 4 years.

How to vote

  • Downloading voting papers – the quickest and easiest way to vote
  • Voting in person at an overseas voting place.

The New Zealand Official Residence in Tehran will be open for overseas voters for the New Zealand General Election 2023.

When: Wednesday 27 September until Thursday 12 October 2023.

Hours: Sunday–Thursday 0800–1200. Note the Official Residence is closed on 29, 30 September and 6,7,13 October. It is possible to vote outside of these hours if the embassy is informed in advance: Tel: +98 919 002 3283 Email: nzembassytehran@hotmail.co.nz

Where: No.15, Corner of Manaee Street and Hashemi Street, Bahonar, Niavaran, Tehran.

You must bring a valid form of ID to enter the building. You do not need to book an appointment. Remember, the easiest and fastest way to vote from overseas is online, you can download your voting papers from https://vote.nz/overseas(external link) — but you are also very welcome to vote from our premises.
