Policy adviser – 3 years fixed term

The New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo is seeking a locally employed Policy Adviser for a 3 year fixed term to support and enhance New Zealand’s business and economic interests in Japan.

The Policy Adviser is responsible for contributing to the advancement of New Zealand’s foreign policy, defence and security, trade, science, innovation, environment, economic, sports and education interests by providing high quality and targeted policy advice and reporting to diplomatic staff, and supporting the Embassy's engagement with government, political, business, science, education, media and other contacts.  This includes monitoring relevant news, conducting research and analysis, supporting visits, and preparing reports, briefings and other documentation.

Applicants with a background in research and analysis skills, event management and networking skills, coupled with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of business and other stakeholders, are encouraged to apply.

Applicants will need to possess a relevant tertiary qualification and 3-4 years relevant work experience as well as strong IT skills, sound judgement, flexibility, initiative, and an ability to set priorities.  The working language is English but the successful candidate will need to have a high level of fluency in both spoken and written Japanese.

The salary range is JPY6,000,000 - JPY6,700,000 gross per annum.  The successful applicant will be employed on local terms and conditions.  Obtaining the appropriate working visa, if required, will be facilitated.  Relocation to Tokyo where required is to be undertaken at the expense of the applicant.  We are looking for the successful candidate to be available to commence duties in October 2018.

Team administrator – 3 years fixed term

The New Zealand Embassy in Tokyo is seeking a locally employed Team Administrator for a 3 year fixed term to provide visits and event management, and administration support to help ensure the efficient and smooth running of the Embassy.

The Team Administrator is responsible for providing oversight and coordination of arrangements for visits and events such as functions, meetings, presentations, conferences and workshops.  The position is also responsible for providing general office administration support, and assisting with the procurement of goods and services.
