Ministry Statements & Speeches:
Mr President,
New Zealand condemns in the strongest terms Iran’s attacks on Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
New Zealand is deeply concerned by the devastating impacts of the conflict on innocent civilians, including the increasing death toll and displacement as a consequence of indiscriminate and targeted attacks on residential areas and critical civilian infrastructure.
New Zealand is deeply concerned at the impact of the conflict on the human rights of everyone affected.
We call on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, particularly regarding the protection of civilians and civilian objects in armed conflict.
Innocent people must not bear the cost of this conflict. Human rights must be upheld and protected at all times.
We implore all states to take urgent action to protect civilians, uphold international law, and prevent further loss of life.
Thank you, Mr President.
