Information for New Zealanders in Iran
- We advise against all travel to Iran due to the volatile security situation in the region, the risk of arbitrary arrest or detention, and the potential for violent civil unrest. See the SafeTravel Advisory for Iran(external link).
- We strongly recommend that all New Zealanders in Iran register on SafeTravel(external link).
- The ability of the New Zealand Government to provide consular assistance to New Zealanders in Iran is extremely limited. Those that need consular assistance should contact the New Zealand 24/7 Consular Emergency Line on +64 99 20 20 20.
New Zealand’s response to the conflict in the Middle East
New Zealand is gravely concerned about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The situation is having a major impact on civilians in the region and on the global economy. It is deeply distressing for all those affected, including communities in New Zealand who are worried about their loved ones overseas.
New Zealand has consistently condemned Iran’s nuclear programme, its destabilising activities in the Middle East and elsewhere, and its repression of its own people. Iran has defied the will and expectations of the international community for decades. Its behaviour and that of its proxies must be addressed.
It is critical that all parties uphold their commitment to the ceasefire and work to find an urgent diplomatic solution to the conflict. International law, including international humanitarian law, must be upheld.
