New Zealand High Commissioner to Kiribati
Michael Upton took up the role of High Commissioner to Kiribati in January 2017.
During his MFAT career, Michael has been previously posted to Samoa and Kiribati, and has also managed the Pacific Economic Development Programme. Before joining MFAT, Michael worked as a technical advisor in Solomon Islands in the areas of capacity building and organisational development.
Earlier in his career Michael worked with a range of local and state government agencies, private sector and community based organisations.
Michael has professional interests in community development and social research, and holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Social Administration,
Michael is married to Vena-Liz Upton and has two daughters
