Getting a driving license

While PNG law allows foreigners to drive on their overseas driver’s licence for the first three months following arrival, it is best to get a PNG Driver’s license as soon as practicable. Driver’s Licences can be obtained from the Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd (MVIL) Head office in Port Moresby (Kunai Street, Hohola). More information can be found on the MVIL website(external link).

Emergency contact numbers (local Police, Civil Defence etc)

In Port Moresby Police can be contacted on 112, Fire on 110 and St John Ambulance on 111. St John Ambulance requires a PGK60 call out fee. The High Commission after-hours Consular (for New Zealand citizens in distress) number is +675 7091 5613.
